Who hires inspectors? Inspectors are industry    experts whose opinions are sought by retailers, carpet fitters, cleaners, restorers, builders and manufacturers.  Inspectors are well paid and highly valued. The largest employer of inspectors is manufacturers who send out inspectors to evaluate claims. Retailers use inspectors for the same reason. Builders are the third largest employer of inspectors.

How to become a certified carpet inspector? Carpet inspectors take the senior carpet inspection course after earning certifications in Repair and Reinstallation and Carpet Cleaning Technician. After taking the course and passing the exam, the student must submit 10 reports to IICRC for review. Once those reports are approved, the student becomes a full-fledged carpet inspector.

How was the carpet made in the picture above? Just so it isn't too easy, you should know that it is tufted and the design is not printed.

Answer to be found in class.

After you sign up...

We will send you the first textbook. It is not necessary to read the whole book but there are several chapters that will give you a head start on the class.

Printed material varies to remain current but in the last class, two books written for the class, 1 textbook, a CD with miscellaneous reference materials and hundreds of pages of related industry literature were handed out, catalogued and discussed. The books have become bigger with time and the handouts smaller. Electronic material has exploded exponentially.

About the instructors...

in Australia

Be one of the very first certified carpet inspectors in Australia. Carpet inspectors are needed. As Australia expands, carpet inspectors become more necessary and valuable.

What is a carpet inspector? Carpet inspectors are an extension of the customer service arm of the carpet industry. Carpet inspectors act independently, reporting on carpet problems once carpet is in the consumer's home or office. The inspector’s job is to investigate consumer complaints and determine where the responsibility for those complaints should lie.

Carpet inspectors have been highly valued by the carpet industry in the United States for more than 30 years. We save all sides millions of dollars, earn consumer goodwill and provide needed expertise by inspecting and solving all kinds of problems and concerns in installed carpet.

What kind of experience is necessary? Carpet inspectors come from all sectors of the flooring industry. Before becoming a certified inspector, one has usually had years of experience as a carpet fitter, cleaner, restorer, retailer or sales representative. It is very unusual for anyone to have experience in all these fields. That is why the certification course is so intensive.

Caution!! Practicing as a carpet inspector requires on-going study. Taking additional classes in substrates and subfloors, classes from manufacturers and classes in carpet fitting, cleaning and restoring are critical to maintaining the level of expertise required of an acting inspector.

This is an advanced class. Some basic knowledge of fibres, yarn construction, carpet construction, dyeing, cleaning and installation is assumed. We will extend that knowledge to a more expert level and concentrate on field testing, lab testing, inspection techniques, advanced construction, installation and maintenance issues as well as report writing, warranty interpretation, colour issues, photography and sample collection. We will support all this with tours of related manufacturing plants. Toward the end of the course we will put this all together and practice working on some common problems.

We have an excellent success rate with students taking this class. Everything is organized in a logical step-wise manner so that you can develop an understanding of carpet issues and investigation on an almost intuitive level at the conclusion of the class. We send out early study materials after a student registers to give a head start. After the class, we continue to work with students individually to help them get through the report writing process for IICRC, answer technical questions and offer career advice.

This course exceeds course requirements of an IICRC approved senior carpet inspection course for those who wish to become IICRC certified Senior Inspectors.
